As both a working musician (Electric Bass) as well as a longtime high-decibel concert-goer (mostly Rock & Metal) where the volume & audio mixes can be piercingly loud, I've found from a decade of using Etymotic Research "ER-20 Ety-Plug" Ear Filters that they're the next best thing to several hundred dollar Audiologist-purchased custom-molded filters. For musicians who sing, one of the unspoken positives about the Filters is in sealing you off from outside noise except from those being filtered, it makes it much easier to hear yourself, find your own voice & pitch, and generally be able to sing louder & on-key with much more confidence.

As a concert-goer for most of my lifetime, my previous set (which lasted a decade until they were lost at a more unruly show) allowed me to enjoy the audio of the show without both the piercing high-frequencies and over-loud mixes from beginning bands that don't have the equipment to pt on a better show, or venues that tend to have "bass traps" or other sonic anomalies that cause the dreaded "Concert Hangover" the next day.

The only reason I'm rating these 4/5 is because the expensive, custom-molded Filters/In-Ear Monitors *do* exist. But I've not heard of a Filter between the price range of them and the ER-20s ($50-$75?) that I could invest in. These are also freakishly simple to take care of: keep them clean by removing the "stem" from the flanged portion that enters your ear and clean them with soap and lukewarm water (as well as regularly cleaning wax from your ears) and they'll last you as long as they're likely to be needed. Also use the included cord so that if they do get pulled out of your ears, they'll simply hang from your shoulder as opposed to getting lost in a crowd.
