As the title suggests, this sort of holster, due to its universal-direction (not one-way pull) snap mount to the belt to secure it, should (in my opinion) not be used for hard-hitting heavy-duty work, such as active law-enforcement or correctional institutions. However, that is not why I purchased it. I am employed as unarmed security with the ability to carry handcuffs. My old holder, which was an older-style snap-closure pouch was bulky and got in the way a lot whenever I sat down, I wanted to try something a little easier to mount onto my work belt. This strap is an excellent option for light to mid-duty security where you don't need to hold a lot on your belt or rig, and the gear you have won't be placed under immense stress. For heavier duty security work or law enforcement, this could be a viable option for use for a backup pair of cuffs without the bulk, but NOTE: The snaps are not one-way closures. That means hard, sustained tension on the snaps will open them, regardless of direction. After being broken in, if this is caught or snagged in a scuffle or on a solid object, your handcuffs could potentially become dislodged.

If these had one-way snaps, this would be fully suitable for full-service law enforcement and correctional institutions. I would love to see that on these, it's the only thing stopping it from a 5-star review for me, as this can easily serve my needs as is.

Also, a tip from someone who does leatherwork on the side for a hobby; if you can get a hold of some saddle-lacquer and coat this sucker, this will last two to three times as long before needing replaced; protective enameling does wonders on leather duty gear. All of mine has it, you won't be sorry. This product does have the basic protective finish, but that little extra touch will do you a good service.
