If you owned an older Israeli civilian mask, this one is a vast improvement over the old one, and this one at its current price is worth the money.

Starting on the outside of the mask is the obvious drinking apparatus. Spend any time at all in a chemical protective ensemble (mask, over-garment, rubber gloves and rubber boots) and you'll soon reach the point that dehydration will do you in as surely as the chemicals would. The ability to drink is critical. The canteen and connecting tube is unique to this mask - it won't work with American masks, nor can it or the Israeli mask be retrofitted - but it is easy to use and the connections lend themselves to easy decontamination prior to use. The filter is Israeli, but the mask will take standard 40mm filter canisters.

The elastic fabric harness is an improvement over the old rubber one on the previous Israeli civilian mask, and there is a small voicemitter in front of the mask which the old one didn't have.

The nosecup inside the mask is improved over the old mask and eliminates lens fogging - the old Israeli mask was very prone to fogging up.

In all, it is as good a mask as you can buy without spending the money on an American M40 and - provided it's serviceable when you get it and maintained regularly - it will work when used with a full-body protective ensemble. The only real advantage of the M40 over this mask is the existence of the "second skin" and the fact that the M40's drinking apparatus is slightly easier to decontaminate prior to use.

The set is as described, with new canteen and new filter. The set was shipped in its original Israeli storage box, but I noted that the box itself was turned completely inside-out. I wondered at his and found it somewhat pointless - if someone is offended to find that he purchased something with Hebrew writing on the OUTSIDE of a box, he's hardly likely to be mollified when he discovers all the Hebrew on the INSIDE.

Withal, this mask is worth the money, and the vendor is worth doing business with. I bought a new, unissued youth sized mask from this vendor which turned out to have suffered shelf-wear (a retaining ring was rusty), and while they were excellent in sending an identical replacement, this too was in slightly less than 100% condition. I'm familiar enough with masks that I could fix the deficiency, but the buyer should be warned that the masks may show normal storage wear. No matter what the condition of the mask you receive, it should be cleaned and dried thoroughly prior to storage.
