I needed it because I had surgery on my Achilles tendon and am retaining water in my ankle, so the doctor said I needed a compression sock. I couldn't stand the idea of wearing a support stocking in summer in California with my shorts and capri's, so he said something like this would be fine. I first bought an ankle support thing from the local drug store, but the opening in the heel hurt my incision site, and was thick so didn't fit in my shoes well. Amazon to the rescue. This looked perfect, and as I said, with only a few hours of experience I feel like it is perfect. It is a tight fit. At first I wondered if I was going to be able to get it on, but once I got it on it felt great. It doesn't pinch or bind anywhere, and definitely does a great job of the compression aspect without hurting. I measured my leg right above the ankle and bought the size it said to buy. Perfect fit. Now that I know it is exactly what I hoped, I plan to buy another one so I can have a spare so I can wash one while wearing the other.
