I am in and out of my truck at work all day, so I chose this rack over the other style which retains the helmet from both sides. This style makes it much easier to grab it and hang it back up quickly when I get in & out.
The only drawback is that since the hard hat is hanging more freely, it rattles a bit while driving. I am on gravel roads a lot though, and doubt it would be noticeable on pavement.
Overall I'm very happy with it.
